Student Advising

Culture of caring.

At Mount Marty, you’ll quickly realize that all your professors know you by name. Our faculty and staff will not only help you pick a degree, but they will also answer your questions about finances, brainstorm goals, and talk about anything else that comes up. These are relationships that will last a lifetime. And it all starts before freshman year.

Before school even starts, come for a campus tour to get a better sense of what campus life and classes are like on the Mount. You’ll truly see what Mount Marty has to offer, where our students live, and have a chance to meet with an academic program advisor to chat about degree options. Just call the Admissions Office at (800) 658-4552 to arrange your personalized campus visit. Then continue the conversation about picking a major throughout your freshman year.

First-year advising

From the moment you register for classes, you’re paired with a first-year advisor who meets with you on a regular basis during your freshman year to provide guidance and ease the pressure of rushing into a declared major. Your advisor is a trained, dedicated faculty or staff member who shares your interests and will help make your transition to college easier.

First-year seminar

During your first semester at Mount Marty, you’ll take a Freshman Seminar (GEN 102) course, designed to help you navigate the expectations of college life and beyond. With small groups of only 10 to 12 students, the course will delve straight into college-level writing and rev up your creative and critical thinking skills. You’ll also identify your academic strengths and strengthen your test preparation skills. And you’ll learn the strategies you need to create a healthy academic and personal routine for college success.

Once you decide on a specific academic interest, you’re assigned a faculty member within that program to guide and support you from your sophomore year through graduation. The two of you will talk about everything from career options to job prospects to making sure you’re on track to complete your degree requirements.

We’ll work together to help you balance the responsibilities of academic and personal life—and discover your potential!
